Scooters aid MTA Police in nabbing suspects

Maryland Transit Administration Police recently stopped an attempted break-in at the Owings Mills Metro Subway Station parking lot. Using the newly acquired, electric-battery operated Freedom Scooters, MTA Police interrupted the attempt by six suspects to break into a vehicle resulting in their apprehension and arrest. The scooters supplement current patrol techniques and allow patrol officers easier movement throughout the Metro parking lots.

Our officers were able to stop a crime in progress. The Freedom Scooters have proven beneficial in a very short period of time, remarked MTA Chief of Police Colonel Douglas DeLeaver. Not only have we increased the effectiveness of our parking lot security, we have put on notice that anyone intent on engaging in criminal activity on our properties will be caught and fully prosecuted.
